For the last three years, we have performed at my church’s picnic. This year I said that we should do something different so instead of doing the picnic, we will be juggling at a hymn sing. My church has hymn sings the first Sunday of each month, and sometimes there is a guest artist. However, this artist has always been a musician in the past. The idea of juggling at a hymn sing may seem weird, but from my perspective this will be the greatest juggling led hymn sing anyone has ever been to. Winning by default has always been the key to my successes. I still need to figure out how this will work, so once again I will be using this blog as a notebook. I will jot down ideas, and add any that people offer. I am listing all the routines that could be in, and any hymns I think of. Note: everything can change, and not all these routines will be in. If you can think of a hymn that relates to a juggling routine, please leave a comment below
Joyful Joyful with Yo-yos. This is the easiest one. Joyful Joyful is already in the hymnal. We can just get a plant in the audience to request number 13 Foundation Routine There are a lot of hymns that deal with Jesus as our foundation. Hymn – “The Solid Rock” Blind Juggling (part 1) The first part of this routine deals with not relying on rules that you made up for your salvation, but trusting in Jesus. Hymn – “Nothing But The Blood” Blind Juggling (part 2) A hymn for the second part of this routine would say something about God working even when we don’t see/understand how. Hymn – ? Numbers (Juggling 1 ball, 2 balls, … up to 10) We count from one to ten. Hymn - “Count Your Many Blessing” Midas Touch Pretty much all juggling routines are designed to get applause, and this one involves trying to get gold. There is a hymn that has verses about applause and gold. This might be the juggling hymn combo I like the best so far. Hymn – “I’d Rather Have Jesus” Duel I’ve got nothing, but I still feel like it has a chance. There must be a hymn about dueling, right? Hymn - ? Clubs Passing with a volunteer in the middle. This could involve trust. Maybe something with staying still, looking ahead, or straight and narrow. Hymn - ? Cigar Box Monte (trying to watch one box) Something about being watchful and alert? Hymn - ? Hats Our hats pop off our heads, maybe we could do something about grappling for control. Hymn - ? Chuka Chuks With limited time in this show, I probably won’t do this, but I do already use Rock of Ages :)
