We have been doing our duel routine since high school. People still like it, but lately we have been trying to think of some new tricks we can do with the sticks to form a new act.  I like the latest one we are working on, but I can’t help but feel like it is missing something.  I am thinking that maybe we could add music to make it better.  Truthfully though, adding music to things is basically my solution for everything. 

Three months ago, Darren and I agreed that he would put up two Facebook posts a month, and I would write a K Anything each month. I assumed I would fail first, but I’m not ready to give up yet. The last two months I have enjoyed writing up ideas for possible juggling shows, and I have also written up a new juggling bit based on the wise and foolish builders that we are actually going to use so I won’t put it on hear. I enjoyed writing these and was planning on writing another bit for the November K Anything. My idea was to expand on our t-shirts.  Our t-shirts have “dropping the ball" on the front and on the back they have 2nd Cor. 12:9

 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

​Darren and I always say that we should pray right before our shows, but this doesn’t happen very often.  Usually before a show we are rushing around trying to make sure everything is set up right. Depending on the event, we might be running around letting people know that a show is about to start. If people are already sitting and waiting for the show to start I usually will start showing them some tricks I’m working on that aren’t in the show yet. For some reason I always feel weird when people are just waiting for the show to start and we are already there also waiting for the show to start. Anyway, we almost never have a backstage area or something like that where we are alone before a show.  I’m not complaining because I do like meeting our audience before and after the show, but it would be nice to have a quiet time to pray before shows.

I always enjoy coming up with ideas for shows.  Since we just premiered Prodigal Fun this year, I would say we probably won’t really start working on a whole new show for at least three years, but that doesn’t mean I don’t ever think about what that next show will look like. In an attempt to not drive Darren completely insane, instead of telling him about ideas for the next show I will just write about them here. I already have two ideas, but I am going to start with the idea that I think is least likely to ever be used for something.

Our first T-shirt design was not a hit, so we went back to the drawing board. We decided that the shirt should be more general instead of focusing in on just one of our shows, and we still wanted to have a verse on the back.  So far, we have three basic ideas. There could be some pictures as well, but for right now we just have the words.  Below are our ideas. We would love it if you voted for your favorite and/or left a comment with your ideas.

Well, I decided that I wanted to come up with some kind of a goal for this month’s blog post, something similar to my networking post where I tried to do some networking for a month.  Not too long ago, I was checking out the insights tab on our Facebook page, and it asked me if I wanted to compare the performance of our Page and posts with similar Pages. Anyway, I found out that Chris Ivey has over 400 likes while we have only 127.  This is not particularly surprising, but it brings me to my goal for the month of September. By the end of September we will have over 500 likes. I am not sure how yet, but I am going to try a bunch of stuff and see what happens. Worst case scenario, I will have something to write about for the October blog post.

Hey, I know it's been a while, but I'm back. I am going to try to start writing K Anything posts once a month again. It seems like every year we are able to make one thing, and usually that thing isn't done until December. In 2010, we made business cards. In 2011, we made the website. In 2012, we made the brochures. In 2013, we made the promo video. One thing a year might not sound like much, but I am happy with what we've done. I don't know if we will make anything new this year besides juggling routines.  However, the idea of a DKers' t-shirt has been thrown out there. I came up with this design based on our Themes Show.  Let me know what you think of the design. And even more importantly, would anyone out there actually be interested in a DKers t-shirt?. Here it is, the Vetoed Christmas Show.   Before you read this and think I am completely insane, you should know what the goals for this show were.  Darren told me that he wanted some audience participation.  I assumed this would be little kid stuff, but Darren told me this would be for banquets, so audiences would be mostly adults.  I told him I didn’t have an idea for a participation bit for adults, and his suggestion was, “maybe do something with a girl.”  Without further ado,

The DKers’ Christmas Special

You may be wondering how we plan shows. We have never come up with a formal process, but basically both Darren and I have total veto power.  Historically, it works as such. In a typical month, I come up with 20 ideas and Darren vetoes 18 of them. Darren comes up with 5 ideas and I veto 3 of them.  We both end up contributing 2 ideas. (NOTE: I have done no research on these figures and they are completely made up. I will send this to Darren before posting this, so he can provide alternate figures if he wishes)

Now, part of me thinks this is a bad process that could lead to complete paralysis and nothing happening, but in actuality it has worked out pretty great. If we tried to use every idea, the show would be constantly changing and never become something solid like our Themes Show.  There is definitely a part of me that likes the idea of having a constantly changing show, but I can see how what we have now is better.  Now to be clear, I am not complaining about Darren vetoing 90% of my ideas. If anything, I think we need more vetoing.  I legitimately think it is a cool process and decided to write about it this month since I had the word veto scribbled down in my list of possible blog ideas. Recently however I have noticed two possible flaws in this process. 

We are working on a new structure for the show. We are going to need a lot of new songs to go with different parts of the show/story. I have some titles jotted down in the outline, but there are a lot of holes and things that can be improved. Below I have listings of what we need for songs as well as our best idea so far (Some of these really won't work, but I tried to put something in each spot).  Please e-mail me or leave comments with your song suggestions.
